Melvins - Q&A |
“Your Readers Should Listen To Captain Beefheart instead of all that 200th generation “metal” shit. Most of that shit just plain sucks” Here’s a short Q&A Buzz filled out recently. METAL HELL: How did the current line-up take shape & how would you compare this to past line-ups? BUZZ OSBOURNE: Well, we had played with the Big Biz guys in the past and liked what we saw. When we got rid of our last bass player, teaming up with the both of them seemed like a good idea and we were right. It feels really different to me with the four of us on stage. Maybe it’s the two drummers thing but now I can’t imagine doing it any other way. MH: How did having 2 drummers influence the writing process for A SENILE ANIMAL? BO: Of course having two drummers was a big influence on how it all came together. I tried to get as much out of it as we could. I mean we went to the trouble to get these guys so we may as well use them. MH: In what sort of time span were the songs written for A Senile Animal? BO: I’ve written songs in all kinds of ways with and without the band. You never know what will work or if it will work. We spent about five months fleshing out ideas I had. Some of them had been sitting for quite awhile but that’s how song writing works sometimes. MH: Have you seen the KISSOLOGY DVD yet? BO: I haven’t seen it but I most likely will. I can’t imagine buying it though. MH: How would you compare the original Alice Cooper group to Alice after he went solo? BO: I am a huge Alice fan in general but I do prefer the original group even though they didn’t play on the big albums. Oh well, at least they wrote the songs. MH: Would you like to release a career retrospective or a box set? BO: We don’t have a lot of unreleased material. My idea for a box set would most likely be something weird I have yet to think up. Time will tell but it won’t be normal. MH: How would you compare the nature of the music business in 2006 to 1986? BO: Business wise it’s always the same. For us it’s better but by and large people have always listened to crappie music and most likely always will. I have never liked most of the “popular” music of any era and I doubt that will change. I think it’s easier for bands today though with all of the available info you can get on the internet about almost anything. MH: Any plans for a DVD? BO: We have all kinds of footage but I once again need to figure out an angle that I like for a DVD. Once again it will not be normal. MH: What’s your favorite music video? BO: God who knows. I think music videos are one of the most played out things there is, that and Hip Hop. Fuck the lot of them. MH: Any closing messages for the readers of Metal Hell? BO: Your readers should listen to Captain Beefheart instead of all that 200th generation “metal” shit. Most of that shit just plain sucks.
